As of 2035, it was designated as the main site of the biennial "Electron" joint military exercises held between Livonia and its NATO allies.Īs the southern half of the region falls within the military exclusion zone, it has been largely abandoned by the civilian population. Since Livonia's independence, the Nadbór region has been converted into an army training area in the mid-late 1990s. The last known band of partisans were known to have based their operations out of the region, though they were ultimately exterminated by the Soviets in 1965. In the Cold War, the subsequent occupation of Livonia by the Soviet Union turned Nadbór into a hotbed of anti-Soviet resistance activity. During the Second World War, the town of Topolin became the site of a bloody massacre when defeated Wehrmacht troops attempted to flee from a penal battalion of Soviet soldiers in 1944. The region has been the site of several significant historical events throughout the nation's existence.
